Goku and Vegeta Fusion Dance - Dragon Ball Anime (2023)

Dragon Ball has brought fans many fusions throughout the series of anime. However, one particular fusion that seems to stand out the most is Goku and Vegeta fusion dance.

Fusion is one of the biggest trump cards in dragon ball when our hero’s backs are against the wall. We have seen this many times throughout the anime where Goku and Vegeta fusion dance saves the day and the planet from destruction.

Goku and Vegeta Fusion

There are two types of fusion in dragon ball that Goku and Vegeta can do. These are the Potara fusion with a pair of earrings, this fusion is called Vegito, and the three-step fusion dance, this fusion is called Gogeta. A fusion with the Potara earrings by Goku and Vegeta will last one hour for mortals and are permanent for supreme Kai’s. The Gogeta Fusion by Goku and Vegeta last up to thirty minutes in the anime.

So, one of the most recent Goku and Vegeta fusion dances we have seen came from Dragon Ball Super Movie Broly. This movie highlighted the Saiyan race and their origins so that we the fans could get a better understanding of the warrior race.

Broly was actually the main character that was highlighted and brought to the forefront of the movie. Although most fans have already seen other Broly movies about the legendary Super Saiyan, this Broly movie was well received by the fans nonetheless.

However, things started to heat up after Goku and Vegeta had their fair share of butt whipping from Broly. So, once again, it all came down to Goku and Vegeta fusion dance to save the day.

To be frank, we found out that Broly wasn’t a tyrant who overpowered Saiayn as we thought. However, he was just being manipulated by his father Paragus who play on his emotions and feelings. Broly is a good guy.

What is a Fusion Dance in Dragon Ball?

A fusion dance in dragon ball is when two characters with the same base level power perform a 3 step dance that merged two bodies into one being. The result of the fusion dance magnifies the character’s power level multiple times over.

Fusion is one of the biggest secret weapons that have been integrated into dragon ball anime by the creator Akira Toriyama.

Many dragon ball fans over the years have marveled over at the fusion dance idea in the anime. Fusion is one of the most talked-about topics in the dragon ball community.

So, here in this post, I will do my best to shed light on three fusions that have been performed in the anime. These fusions include Goku and Vegeta Potara fusion, along with their finger fusion dance. The Namekian fusion, and the Metamoran finger fusion that is done by Trunks and Goten.

So here, we will talk about the strongest fusion and a little analysis behind each fusion dance in the anime.

Dragon Ball Fusion Idea

The idea of fusion was created on a simple joke that was mentioned by one of Toriyama’s staffers. This silly mistake or joke was immediately crafted into an idea by Toriyama himself. Toriyama then went on to make this an official plot point and integrated it into the anime.

The Namekian Fusion

Fusion was nothing new in the anime at the time, we saw the first fusion out of dragon ball z and it was the Namekican fusion between Nail and Piccolo.

Piccolo Fusion With Nail

Dragon Ball z manga chapter 295 was the first time we have seen two Namekians fused together. This manga chapter correlates with the anime’s episode 77.

After Piccolo sacrifices his life to save Gohan against the arrival of Vegeta and Nappa, the Saiyan Saga. He was wished back by the dragon balls, then send back to his homeworld Planet Namek to assist Krillin, Gohan, for Frieza.

While on his journey they run into a beaten and crippled half-dead Namekian named Nail. Nail was beaten lifeless by a fight he had with the tyrant Frieza.

The beaten Namekian told Piccolo about Frieza’s monstrous power and convinced Piccolo that he can’t defeat Frieza without fusion. Nail told Piccolo that the only way for them to win against Frieza is to become one.

Piccolo then placed his hand on Nail’s chest, then after, they become one being. Afterward, Piccolo realized that he had gained super strength. He was strong enough to pound and defeat the second form out of Frieza.

This sort of fusion is forever and completely permanent stated to Nail. They are able to absorb each other’s powers entirely. One character serves as a host while the other serves as a spirit base on memories knowledge and power.

Also during the Cell arc, Kami agrees with Piccolo to merge their bodies and become one once more. Nonetheless, it was to regain their lost power, to begin with. This was the second fusion we saw by Piccolo merging. So, This was done in Dagon ball z episode 141. This correlates with the manga chapter 360.

Metamoran Finger Fusion Dance

When Goku died between the seven years gap Cell Saga and between the Buu Saga, Goku fought and trained with many different warriors.

During this time, Babidi arrived and awaken the sleeping Majin Buu. As things got worst, Goku decided it was time to display one of the techniques to learn in the other worlds. We came to find out that this was none other than the Metamoran finger fusion Pose. Goku would then teach Piccolo, Goten, and Trunks the Fusion Pose as well.

What is The Fusion Pose

The fusion pose is a simple 3 step dance performed by two individuals Goten and Trunks with equal power levels merging together that creates a stronger being.

However, this fusion pose only lasts for 30 minutes. Once the time expires and both parties are defused, they must wait for an additional (hour) before they can merge again.

So if the fusion between both parties is done incorrectly, the result will be a failed character looking either fat or very old.

With every finger fusion pose, the character has a unique look about them. They are always dressed in a consistent way. You can identify them easily with their cool-looking mini vest. So, one of the reasons why they have the cool looking vest is that it is a representation of the people on Planet Metamor.

You can easily identify these cool-looking vests on Goku and Vegeta fusion dance that is performed with their fingers. Also, it’s notable on Goten and Trunks Metamoran fusion dance. Don’t forget about Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta as well.

Super Saiyan 3 Gotenks

With the Metamoran fusion finger dance, we found out that it allows the fused host to unlock more power than they would individually. This has been proven to us when Goten and Trunks Gotenks achieved Super Saiyan 3.

The one thing that merged characters seems to have in common is that they can be very cocky and overconfident.

So, the first time that we see a Metamoran fusion finger pose was in dragon ball z episode 251, Getenks vs fat Majin Buu.

Many fans wondered how was it possible for Gotenks to achieve Super Saiyan 3 when Goten or Trunks could not do it on their own? Fusion can be a sort of hack when the comes to merging two beings.

However, I beg the question, is this the most powerful fusion in Dragon Ball?

Goku and Vegeta Fusion Dance Gogeta

For some reason, the Goku and Vegeta fusion dance that produced Gogeta was the exact opposite of Gotenks pride. This was in dragon ball Z movie 12 where Gogeta faces off against Janemba.

However, we could factor in the fact that Gogeta had little time to react cocky when Janemba attacked him.

What is The Potara Fusion Multiplier

Potara fusion is the most powerful fusion in dragon ball anime. This is not because it’s stated in Daizenshu 4, just look at what it’s capable of. The old grandpa Kai was the first Kaioshin to introduce the Potara fusion in dragon ball.

The old Kai explained that while he was reading a book, an old witch came a took one of his Potara hair rings and thus they fused forever. It is one of the reasons why the old Kaioshin has many strange techniques in the anime.

The old Supreme Kai goes on to explain to Goku that the Potara fusion is permanent and does not have a time limit. However, unlike the finger fusion where the Characters wear a vest, with the Potara fusion, the character’s clothing merged together instead.

Gogeta and Vegito Fusion

One of the biggest reasons behind having two fusions is that Toriyama did want to have the same Gogeta fusion of Movie 12. So what apparently happened is that he created a new fusion, the Potara fusion called Vegito.

With Piccolo, Gotenks, and Gohan getting absorbed by Buu, there was no one left on earth to go up against Super Buuhan. The old Supreme Kai gave up his life so the Goku could live and defend the earth.

Also, Vegeta got his way with king Yemma and was granted back one day on earth to face off against Super Buuhan. Thus both Vegeta and Goku got their butts whipped by Buuhan so they had no other choice than to fuse with the Potara.

These actions are to place in dragon ball z manga chapter 503 which correlates with dragon ball z episode 268. The birth of the newly fused Vegito knew from the getgo that Super Buuan could not defeat him.

Even though Super Buu had unlimited power from Piccolo, Super Saiyan 3 Gotenks, and Ultimate Gohan. He was still no match for super Vegito. Vegito’s plans were to torment Buu so much that he would eventually absorb him and destroy him from within. However once Vegito got absorbed inside Buu’s body it defused.

Conclusion

So, is the Potara fusion the strongest fusion in dragon ball anime? Or is it the Goku and Vegeta fusion dance pose stronger.

Well, based on the anime itself, it seems as if the Potara fusion has its limits when it comes down to time. It can only last for one hour as we see in the anime when Goku and Vegeta used the Potara fusion against Zamasu.

However, with Goku and Vegeta’s finger fusion pose, they can use up an unlimited amount of power without burning up time like that with the Potara fusion.

One big example is the battle between Broly and Gogeta. If they had used the Potara fusion, they would have used up most of their time and power. Thus resulting in a situation that they would defuse. This contradicts the statement that the old Supreme Kai made about Potara fusion that it had no time limits.

Obviously, Goku and Vegeta are more powerful than the Potara earrings are capable of. However, Potara fusion tens to work best on Supreme Kai’s because Zamasu never defused, unlike Vegito in the Future Trunks Saga.
