Through this tale of a Tsar who wanted to know the nature of appropriate counsel and action, Tolstoy reveals an illuminating notion about the duties of man. This simple tale is loaded with deep thoughts on the way human beings should conduct their actions.

Ans - Leo Tolstoy 's "Three Question", the tale of a Tsar who wanted to know the nature of appropriate counsel and action.

The three questions were -

i) What was the right time for every action.

ii) Who were the most necessary people.

iii) How he might know what was the important thing to do.

He needed the answers because if he always knew what was the most important thing to do then he would never failed in anything he might undertake.

When the Tsar wanted to know all the answers he had it proclaimed throughout his kingdom that he would give a great reward to anyone who would teach him all the things. And learned men came to the Tsar but they all answered his questions differently. For these difference he agreed with none. This is why he dissatisfied with the answers given by the scholars and learned man.

When the sun began to sink behind the trees and the Tsar at last stuck the spade into the ground , then the hermit saw that there towards them someone was running. The Tsar turned round and saw a bearded man come running out of the wood. This is why the wounded man received. When he reached the Tsar, he fell fainting on the ground moaning feebly. The Tsar and the hermit unfastened the man's clothing, the Tsar washed it as best he could and bandaged it with his handkerchief and with a towel the hermit had. But the blood would not stop flowing so the Tsar rebandaged the wound. When at last the blood ceased flowing, the man received and asked for something to drink . The Tsar brought fresh water and gave it to him. Then with the hermit's help carried the wounded man into the hut and laid him on the bed.

He asked forgiveness of the Tsar as he was that enemy of the Tsar who sword to revenge himself on the Tsar because the Tsar executed his brother and seized his property. He knew he had gone alone to saw the hermit and he resolved to kill him on his way back.

The Tsar was very glad to made peace with his enemy so easily and to have gained him for a friend and he not only forgave him but said he that he would send his servants and his own physician to attend the wounded man and promised to restore his property.
