OpenID Foundation - The New Board Election is on!

What do you have to do to participate?

The only requirement is to be a Member of the Foundation ($25.00 for an individual membership). Not only will you then be able to vote in this current election, but all year long. Also, you will be actively supporting the Foundation in its actions to develop OpenID. Register Here Now, and VOTE!

Why is it so important to Vote?

The future of the Foundation, the future of this technology, all depends on the actions, on the good judgment and beliefs of the people in charge: their personalities, their dedication, their opinions shape events and give the Foundation its efficacy. This is where you come in: you have right now the power to choose these men, to create a winning team, oriented towards the future of OpenID. This new Board will have to face other technologies, and the complexity of an Internet undergoing a perpetual mutation in 2009. Your vote is thus extremely important!

How to Vote?

Seventeen (17) candidates have decided to run for the election, all (17) have been selected to occupy seven (7) seats, and YOU are going to choose who will sit in these 7 seats.

Voting is really easy. All you have to do is to have an OpenID, then to become a Member of the OIDF. You will then access the Board Member Election for December 2008 page, where you will be asked to choose one or more candidates whom you think have "the right stuff" to be at the helm of the OIDF "ship."

Who to choose for the New Board / Who should get your vote?

My personal opinion is that the Foundation needs some fresh blood infused into it; it needs to open itself up to the world, to undertake a certain number of concrete actions, while following and respecting the OpenID philosophy.

You have a choice between:

- Some people who have been on the Board since the inception of OpenID, and have created the Foundation. These men are running (5 of the 7) in this election: David Recordon, Dick Hardt, Johannes Ernst, Martin Atkins and Scott Kveton;

- People who have worked independently of the Foundation and are very active: Brian Kissel, Chris Messina and Nat Sakimura who, IMHO, should absolutely be on the new Board;

- Some new people who have some interesting skills and experience: Allen Tom, Eran Hammer-Lahav, Eric Sachs, John Bradley, Joseph Smarr, Luke Shepard, Mike Kirkwood and Peter Nixey;

- LAST, BUT NOT LEAST... There is also... me, Snorri Giorgetti, as I am a Candidate as well :)

Of course, you are free to vote to please yourself, for your friends or your office colleagues, but I am calling upon your sense of responsibility, as the future of OpenID will depend from your vote. Take the time to look at the whole statements and to make the choice which seems the best to you in the interest of OpenID.

And what do I have to offer in all this? :) / My candidacy

As I wrote above, I am a candidate as well, and I am counting on your support, as I will be actively participating in the reforms we must put in place in 2009, the changes the OpenID Community expects.

Please note that my presence on the Board will have as its main objective to increase RP adoptions, to embrace, and partner with, other technologies to make OpenID a household name, familiar to the public at large and to all end users; to approach again a large community of developers; to make the Foundation truly represent the International Community; and to propose yet more transparency and more proximity to the OpenID Community.

The vote from November 24, 2008 to December 8, 2008 was only to nominate the candidates ; to cast your vote, you will have to vote again with the number of candidates remaining in the race.

If you have already voted during that timeframe for one of several candidates, do not forget that this was only to nominate candidates. For you final vote to be taken into account, you must vote again with the number of candidates remaining in the race. You will be able to do this from today, December 10th on.
